About The Artist

Christine Helton completed the Graphic Design and Illustration Certificate Program at The Northwest Pacific College of Art in Portland in 1990.  In 1981, she received her Masters of Teaching from Lewis and Clark College with an Art Endorsement.  She earned her BA in English and her teaching certificate at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.

Currently, Chris takes classes and workshops from local Northwest artists and volunteers as a member of the Village Gallery, the Watercolor Society of Oregon, the Beaverton Art Commission and the Oregon Society of Artists in Portland.

A native of San Francisco, Chris moved to Sonoma County in the sixties, and married her husband while attending Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington.  They moved to Portland after graduation in 1975, raised two fantastic daughters, and both continue to pursue their professions.  Chris taught in elementary schools from 1975 until 2000, teaching kindergarten, second, third, fourth, and sixth grade.  Recently, she taught painting, drawing and advanced arts at the Arts and Communication Magnet Academy in Oregon’s Beaverton School District to sixth through twelfth graders.

Artist's Statement
Please enjoy my exhibit, “Our Daily Bread”.  It represents different people, in different places, in their everyday life, doing their unique daily tasks.  We all work in one capacity or another and contribute to the general give and take of life’s balance.  Working is a common human experience that provides challenge, growth and satisfaction.  Through our labors we benefit others and ourselves.  I create works of art because I enjoy it, but it’s nice to discover it reflects and honors the heart and soul of others.
