Red Cell Reference Laboratory

The Reference Laboratory of the Pacific Northwest Regional American Red Cross is accredited as an advanced Reference Laboratory by the American Red Cross National Reference Laboratory for Blood Group Serology and by AABB (formerly called American Association of Blood Banks).

The Reference Laboratory is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide services and products to patients with difficult serologic needs. In the event a rare blood type is not available in our region, our Reference Laboratory is able to obtain rare units from areas throughout the country by accessing to the American Rare Donor Program.

The staff at the Pacific Northwest Region Reference Laboratory is among the most knowledgeable in immunohematology field nationwide. They are trained in the most unique and highly specialized technologies used at our facility. The staff's technical skills, combined with their superior customer service have enabled our Reference Laboratory to constantly meet the special needs of all of your patients.

DNA/HLA Clinical Laboratory

The Tissue Typing (HLA) /DNA Laboratory of the Pacific Northwest Region American Red Cross is accredited by the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) and by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). The lab is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide a variety of services. The staff at the HLA/DNA Laborataory is trained in the state-of-the-art and highly specialized molecular immunohematological technologies used at our facility. The staff's technical skills, combined with their superior customer service have enabled our laboratory to constantly meet your special needs.

• HLA ABC antigen by conventional serology
• HLA ABC loci by SSP-PCR
• HLA DR/DQ by SSP-PCR
• Disease correlation typings
• HLA Class I antibody screening
• Apheresis/HLA matched donors
• Platelet antibody screening
• Platelet crossmatching
• Paternity services, using buccal cells or blood/tissue
• Testing for other genetic relationships, such as grandparentage and sibship
• Immigration casework for paternity, maternity and sibship establishments
